New tile set and a new direction!

Hey everyone I know its been a while since my last update and I'm sorry about that... But at any rate I have some big news about the game and its direction.

The NES limitation has been removed from the project... what this basically means is that the game will have less graphical and physical limitations! I originally wanted it to feel like a NES game all the way down to graphic and hardware limitations but have decided that maintaining that course would of hurt the project far more then it would of helped! So limitations have been removed!

This means...

-Rooms will be bigger
~Example: In the NES metroid game rooms could be in a ratio of 1 screen wide and x screens tall or vice versa but rooms could not be say 2 screens wide and 5 screens tall. With the limitations removed you can see rooms that are 3 screens wide and 4 screens tall making level design far more diverse!

-Bigger Bosses and less of a sprite size limitation

-Better AI

-And other stuff :)

Graphicly I wish to stay close to the nes style but with some enhancements :P

The other news is that Sylux my lead graphics designer has made a compleatly new tile set for the starting zone, which is named Entrā, that you can see in the screenshot below!


We plan to have a demo of the game availible soon but still have no estimated time for its release. As always please leave your comments and feedback about the project :)

Fusion Suit Samus and more!

Alright to start off today I'm going to show off 2 screen shots :)
Note: The screens are in wide screen format.

That's right we have the fusion suit sprites now :)


The Equipment Menu System. The items that are blotted out are not finalized and/or I just dont want to ruin the supprise yet :)


That's right not only do we have to fusion suit sprites done we also have the equipment menu system done. The fusion suit sprites were made by my spriter who for the time being will be referred to as Sylux. He has currently been working on many tasks with the project such as story, sprites, and more.

We have also possibly found a music composer and I will update with information about this as soon as possible.

In other news the starting zone, the place where Samus lands now has a finalized name. The area will be known as Entrā. I wanted to get the name out to make it easier to refer to progress on the area.

There is no finalized time on when the game shall be completed and at this time I can not give a % amount of completeion. I will hopefully have a new update atleast once a month.

Welcome to Project Nestroid

Hello everyone I am BassZ1890. For a while now Ive been meaning to get around to this blog but have not had the time to. But without further ado... Welcome to Project Nestroid!

Anyway about the project.

Nestroid is a fan made Metroid Game that started out as yet another Metroid 2. About half way through finishing the normal physics for samus i had decided to change the project to be an compleatly original game. The first original idea was going to be a horor based metroid game but that idea was quickly trashed. It took me a while to think of what i wanted to do but ive now got the story prety much put together. I dont wish to reveal anything about the story at the moment but will in the near future.

Engine wise the game is comming along nicely. 11 of the 26 rooms planed for the landing zone have been finished. And almost all of Samuses mechanics have been compleated.

At any rate I will have screenshots up some time today to give you a preview of what has been done so far.

Screenshots Sofar:
This is the landing site, Once i get further along samuses ship will be there instead of those blocks. Also samuses sprite is not the final sprite its just a place holder for the moment.
These robots are the zoomers on the planet... But where did they come from?Ive added crouching to the game to help with hitting smaller enemies. There is no diagonal aiming though.Morph Ball... Because its the first item you get in every game...There is an energy tank down there that requires morph ball bombs to get.The first boss in the game! Can you guess what item you get for beating it?
Also on a side note the red bar on the bottom of the screen is the bosses health bar.You cant complain about free missiles :)Samus seems perplexed on how to get up.WALL JUMP!!!!More missiles!
